AGM minutes 2010:
The President's address - introduced by the Vice President, Mr Tim Rogers
Miss Jennie Chantal Oliver, esteemed president of KCLMC for 2009/10 spoke eloquently for several minutes on the experiences of the club and it's members this year...
Miss Oliver began by paying respects to beloved friend and respected committee member Mr Haris Ahmed, who will forever be remembered as the heart and soul of the club.
Moving on to a happier subjects, Miss Oliver recounted the various mountaineering trips undertaken in the last year, with special mention to the extraordinary achievements of club alumni Mr Edward Lemon, Mr Martin Jones and Dr Gareth Mottram during their expedition to Kyrgyzstan. Also mentioned were a highly successful freshers trip and a highly disastrous (yet riotously enjoyable) Easter trip to Aix en Provence, and of course the forthcoming Alps trip, which promises to be spectacular.
On the topic of LUBE (which Miss Oliver considers to be the greatest achievement of KCLMC this year), Miss Oliver thanked all those involved in the organisation and delivery of the competitions, with special mentions for Mr Oliver Lister, whose extraordinary efforts have made LUBE possible, and Mr Rogers who did his best to help. Mr Rogers rather rudely interrupted at this moment to point out that Miss Oliver also deserved considerable praise for her own input to the competitions. A sitting ovation followed.
The contributions to the club made by Mr Rogers, Miss Maeve Caviston Diffley, Mr Oliver Lister and Mr Martin Davies were officially recognised by KCLSU this year, with Mr Rogers and Miss Caviston Diffley awarded Full Colours, and Mr Lister and Mr Davies awarded Half Colours in a glittering champagne reception earlier in the year.
The finances of the club were reported to be in very healthy shape - quite an achievement considering the savage budget cuts that were imposed at the start of the year. Outgoing Treasurer Miss Caviston Diffley was thanked for her considerable monetary prowess in service of the club.
Outgoing Social Secretary Mr Andrew Feneley was thanked for his efforts in securing a venue for the AGM, and the rest of the outgoing committee were thanked for their sterling efforts throughout the year. A further sitting ovation followed.
Points from the floor
Mr Feneley announced the results of his recent research, in which he discovered that Mr Rogers has an Erdős number of 5, sparking a riot of excitement in the crowd.
The Election of the new committee - conducted by show of hands with eyes shut
In a tense and exciting battle of brains and charisma the club committee for the year 2010/11 was elected. Speeches were made, votes were cast and bones were broken in combat. The results are as follows:
President - Mr Edward Hofman
Vice President - Mr Oliver Lister
Treasurer - Mr James Chidgey
Team Captain - Mr Martin Davies
Secretary - Miss Claire Field
Gear Secretary - Mr Joe Mealor
Trip Secretary - Miss Helena Lightbody
Hill-walking Secretary - Miss Anika Flower
Publicity Officer - Miss Rosie Spragg
Social Secretary - Mr Sam Vaughan
Several non-voting positions were also elected:
Alumni Secretary - Mr Tim Rogers
Swiss Ambassador - Mr Peter Brook
French Ambassador - Mr Robert Marsh
Webmaster - Mr Emlyn Clay
Other Motions
Mr Andrew Feneley proposed a motion introducing a formal dress code for the club, to be known as Haris Dress, in honour of its creator. Miss Filed proposed a motion that Haris Dress should be modified to make better more stringent requirements on the fairer sex (no doubt in response to some of the more questionable fashion choices made by some of the females present). Both motions were carried unanimously, and Mr Feneley and Miss Field have agreed to form a sartorial subcommittee to discuss the points raised.
Later in the evening, a substantial oral motion was passed in the toilet of 278 Arnold Estate by Mr Rogers, in rebuttal to the repeated flaggonage challenges of Mr Martin Jones.
