London University Bouldering Events (LUBE)

LUBE is a brand new bouldering competition starting in 2010, with every round held at a different London climbing venue.

WHO: University teams from around the UK are eligible to enter. We ask that each University bring no more than 2 teams of 3 people each (2 males, 1 female).

ROUNDS: There will be 4 rounds in total - January, February, April and May.

PRIZES: These will be awarded along the way for Individual Male and Female places 1st-5th as well as a special prize reserved for the winning University at the end of the competition.

PAYMENT: The combined cost for Rounds 1 + 2 = £91. Please pay this into the following HSCB account:

EXTRA INFO: We have loads more prizes to give away, including those for best overall team at the end of round 4. So at the halfway point in the competition there's still plenty to climb for!!

Timings will be similar to round 1 and there doesn't appear to be any limit on numbers at either venue. This will mean you can bring the usual two teams (2 gents plus a lady) and additional individuals. More specific info on these things and others will be forthcoming closer to round 3.

ROUND 2:

WHERE: The Castle Climbing Centre, Green Lanes, Stoke Newington, London, N4 2HA.

WHEN: 27 February 2010. Wall opens at 10am, climbing from 10.30am till 1.30pm. Competition routes will be in the Mezz and the Quarry.

PARKING: There is limited parking available at the Castle. Park within the gates along the road or right outside the doors. Do NOT park at the reservoir, they lock the gates. If in any doubt, ask at reception and they will be able to tell you.

TRAIN/TUBE: The nearest underground station is Manor House, Piccadilly Line. Come out of the tube station and walk south down Green Lanes. You will see the Castle on your left after 5-10mins.

BUS: Number 141 goes to the Castle from London Bridge Station.]

PRIZES: Ben Bransby will be doing an Evolv climbing shoe demostration during the day and presenting the prizes. Ben is one of the best british climbers around at the moment, check him out attempting The Promisehttp://vimeo.com/2458024 and read an interview with him on the DMM website: http://www.dmmclimbing.com/index.asp?id=65.

Also, a *free* pair of brand spanking new Evolv climbing shoes for 1st male and 1st female. Definitely something to aim for!

AFTERPARTY: Everyone is invited to the Brownswood pub across the road from the Castle. We are investigating hiring the top room, more details to follow.


ROUND 1:

WHERE: The Arch Climbing Wall, 6 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 2ER.

WHEN: 30 January 2010, 10am till 2.30pm.

PARKING: The nearest car park is Snowsfield NCP. Maximum cost per day is £16. It is located on the corner of Kipling Street and Porlock Street. Beware! Kipling is one-way, heading south.

TRAIN/TUBE: The nearest overground and underground station is London Bridge. Come out of the main entrance onto Tooley Street, turn right and walk down past the London Dungeons. After about 150 metres, turn right at the Shipwright Arms pub and behind the blue railings and the private car park you'll see the sign for The Arch.

BUS: Numbers 17, 21, 35, 40, 43, 47, 48, 133, 141, 149, 343, 381, 521, RV1 all go past or through London Bridge Station. Then follow the directions above.
