The King's College London Mountaineering Club (KCLMC) is committed to sparking and developing your interest in climbing. Climbing can be an expensive and technical sport and the primary commitment of the club to our members is lowering these financial and technical barriers. We also encourage the adventurous spirit of climbing in the great outdoors, which for the London student is an opportunity not to be missed.
The club manages a budget to supply members with -
- Gear rental. (excl. climbing shoes)
- Insurance at our regular climbing wall, the Castle.
- Insurance for all club climbing trips to the UK
The club provides guidance -
- On safe climbing practice.
- Climbing style.
- Rope work.
This is all inclusive of our yearly membership, a sensationally low £23!
Every wednesday the KCLMC go to the Castle Climbing Centre in Manor House (NE London) at around 2.30pm. We have a number of harnesses and belay plates that we loan on a first-come-first-served basis to members only. If you want to have a go before you join the club just come along for a taster session (we'll even lend you a harness!).
King's College London Mountaineering Club is a ratified club within the body of the King's College London Student Union and is run by a student committee. As well as bi-weekly trips to London climbing walls, last year the club ran regular walking, rock climbing, winter climbing and mountaineering trips to the Peak District, Portland, Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons, Fort William and the Cairngorms, the club also entered 3 teams into the BUSA Bouldering competition, this year we have begun competing in SCUIBL . The climax of the year was in June when 12 people went mountaineering and rock climbing in the Ecrins National Park in the French Alps for a month.
